What about "Free" sites?    Or my friend who has some old web software from 2005?

Free sites are pasted with ads.  They're owned by someone else.  There are always additional features you need that aren't "free."  We do offer a free 30-day trial.  Does that help? We've all seen sites that were done using outdated technology or were meant for print media -- not the web -- and sites that just cry out "help!"   When you need to update the site, what do you do then?  Your friend is a great person -- but you need a platform that lets you manage your site when your friend isn't around.  He or she has a life too, you know.  So get the site you need at a price anyone can afford today.

What about Joomla or WordPress?  Or "free" CMS software

Good question.  Site set up and maintenance -- and a learning curve -- for "free" CMSes can be a challenge for people whose time is valuable, who aren't "techie" people, or when you really want someone else to handle the site updates, hosting and administration.  Would you install your own brake pads on your car?  Or a new battery?  Then why would you go with a "Do-it-yourself" self-hosted CMS?   But, maybe you have the time and want to maintain your site yourself.  If so, there are lots of hosts that offer hosting that can suit your needs.  but *You* have to supply the labor, and do the research.  And when you want someone else to administer your site, you will have to train them... and if you can't do that, then you may have to migrate your site.
